From where does this new tenderness creep,<\/p>\n
As the air outside grows colder?<\/p>\n
As I count the treasures I intend to keep,<\/p>\n
And cast a glance over my shoulder…<\/p>\n
What has cut me open so wide and deep;<\/p>\n
What hopes to step inside?<\/p>\n
What whispers to me as I sleep<\/p>\n
That by daylight still does hide?<\/p>\n
As I recount now what I’ve seen,<\/p>\n
What I’ve gathered and have earned,<\/p>\n
I wonder just what I can make,<\/p>\n
And how far my wheel has turned.<\/p>\n
I see now what I’ve left behind,<\/p>\n
And know what I hope will stay.<\/p>\n
Now, I wonder what will fill the space<\/p>\n
Of what I dug out and burned away…<\/p>\n
As the nights grow long and cold<\/p>\n
I hope we’ll have warmth to share.<\/p>\n
And when the days are short and lonely,<\/p>\n
I hope we’ll find new ways to care.<\/p>\n
As I look forward to the slowing down,<\/p>\n
Time of stillness and retreat –<\/p>\n
As I sense the stirring deep inside<\/p>\n
Of the parts of myself I’ve yet to meet –<\/p>\n
I’m grateful for all that has passed<\/p>\n
And for what is coming still,<\/p>\n
And I start to taste what I’ve been brewing<\/p>\n
And look forward to being filled.<\/p>\n
