As I have been a mother to my children,<\/p>\n
I’ve been mothering myself.<\/p>\n
As they grow and change and change again,<\/p>\n
I’m changing shape as well.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
There have been times that I’ve resisted,<\/p>\n
That I’ve fought against the flow.<\/p>\n
There were times that I could not hang on,<\/p>\n
Times that I could not let go…<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Through all of this exploring,<\/p>\n
And the challenges and growth,<\/p>\n
I’ve felt I was missing something<\/p>\n
To help with keeping me afloat.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
As I have found my inner child<\/p>\n
And all the fears she keeps<\/p>\n
I’ve done my best to tend to her<\/p>\n
Healing whatever I could reach.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
But even making space for her,<\/p>\n
And trying to bridge that gap<\/p>\n
Left me feeling a little stuck,<\/p>\n
Like I was still holding something back.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
And I guess that the time must have been right,<\/p>\n
Maybe I could not have done it before,<\/p>\n
But something has clicked into place<\/p>\n
And now I see what I’ve been yearning for.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
It is well and good to help that child<\/p>\n
Living deep inside of me,<\/p>\n
But to my surprise I’ve found, instead,<\/p>\n
It is she who is saving me!<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
For as I became an adult,<\/p>\n
And as I had my own kids too,<\/p>\n
I left behind something important,<\/p>\n
That’s kept me from living my truth.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
All the striving to comfort and soothe myself,<\/p>\n
And to be the best parent I can,<\/p>\n
I had forgotten how to play! Have fun!<\/p>\n
To be wild, full of wonder, joy in hand!<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Now I see the secret ingredient here<\/p>\n
To the mix that I’ve struggled to brew<\/p>\n
I need to remember to do what I love<\/p>\n
And to love what I have to do, too.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
All the roles that I play these days,<\/p>\n
All the different aspects I can be,<\/p>\n
They all jumble together in a beautiful mess<\/p>\n
